For nearly two decades, Sommer D. Luther has built a reputation as a tenacious and principled trial attorney, dedicated to securing justice for individuals and families harmed by negligence, misconduct, or dangerous products. A respected leader in the Colorado legal community, Sommer combines her trial experience with legislative advocacy—ensuring her impact extends beyond the courtroom to statewide policy reform.
Sommer is a longtime member and past President of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association (CTLA). In these roles, she has helped shape and defend legislation that protects the rights of consumers, patients, and injured parties across Colorado. She is also a member of the Colorado Bar Association, Denver Bar Association, and the American Association for Justice.
In 2025, Sommer was appointed by the Honorable Charles Breyer to serve on the Plaintiff's Steering Committee in MDL3084-In Re Uber Technologies, Inc. Passenger Sexual Assault Litigation, situated in the Northern District of California. The Uber litigation involves Uber passengers who were sexually assaulted by their Uber drivers.
Sommer works on a variety of sexual abuse cases including representing survivors of sexual abuse associated with the Boy Scouts of America; survivors of abuse perpetrated by former university physician Dr. Robert Anderson at the University of Michigan; and survivors of sexual abuse perpetrated by former Chicago-based OBGYN Dr. Fabio Ortega in Cook County, Illinois.
In 2012, Sommer was honored as Young Lawyer of the Year by CTLA, recognizing her legal skill and leadership early in her career. In 2017, she was inducted into the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), a prestigious, invitation-only organization of experienced trial lawyers and judges.
Sommer's work in sexual abuse litigation, high-stakes personal injury and medical malpractice litigation is marked by deep compassion for clients, strategic precision in litigation, and an unwavering commitment to accountability and results.
She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Florida and her Juris Doctor from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. Admitted to the Colorado Bar in 2003, Sommer is licensed to practice in both state and federal courts.
