WHAT'S THE PROBLEM WITH HEAVY METALS IN BABY FOOD?
In February 2021, a Congressional report revealed that a number of commercial baby foods are tainted with dangerous heavy metals, including arsenic, lead, cadmium, and mercury. A number of very popular baby food makers were knowingly selling tainted products, including infant rice cereal, teething biscuits, purees, and rice cakes, among others. An earlier study by Consumer Reports found similar results. Exposure to these metals – especially in the youngest children – can lead to irreversible brain damage.
WHAT BABY FOODS WERE NAMED IN THE STUDY?
- Happy BABY and Happy Family Organics by Nurture, Inc.
- Beech-Nut by the Beech-Nut Nutrition Company
- Earth's Best Organic by Hain Celestial Group
- Gerber
- Plum Organics by Campbell's Soup Company
- Parent's Choice by Wal-Mart
- Sprout Organic Foods by Sprout Foods, Inc.
These companies' own internal documents show that their baby foods contain far higher levels of heavy metals than are allowed in other products, like bottled water.
EFFECTS OF HEAVY METALS ON BABIES AND OTHER YOUNG CHILDREN
Heavy metals are severe neurotoxins. Exposure can contribute to lifelong brain damage and neurodevelopmental disorders in children. The primary disorders that can be clearly traced back to heavy metal exposure are severe autism and ADHD. If your child has been diagnosed with one of these conditions and ate a substantial amount of one of the brands listed above for at least one year, you may be able to pursue justice and compensation that would help reimburse you for medical costs and more relating to your child's diagnosis.
Typically, children who develop severe autism based on heavy metal exposure will be diagnosed between the ages of 2 and 14. Children who develop severe ADHD due to heavy metal exposure will be diagnosed between age 8 and 14.
